Virat Kohli to lead RCB in IPL 2025? Official of franchise provides massive update
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will have fresh leadership for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League after opting to let go of Faf du Plessis, its captain for three years. There were many speculations-one is Virat Kohli probably returning to lead this franchise again four years after quitting in 2021. That speculation hasn’t come from management as yet.
RCB Yet to Decide on Captaincy Call
Recently, while in conversation with Sports Tak, RCB’s Chief Operating Officer Rajesh Menon was asked if Kohli could once again lead the franchise. To this, he replied:
“Currently, we have not decided anything. We have multiple leaders in the team—4-5 leaders are there. We have not deliberated on what we need to do. We will deliberate and come to a conclusion.”
It means the franchise is keeping its options open before taking the final call on the leadership for IPL 2025.
Is Captaincy Returning to Kohli?
Virat Kohli had led RCB from 2013 to 2021 and stepped down as captain to concentrate on his batting. Notwithstanding his captaincy, RCB is yet to win an IPL title, though they were runners-up in 2016. With Kohli still an integral part of the squad, many fans and cricket pundits feel that he could be the perfect man to lead the team once again.
His experience, aggressive mindset, and deep connection with the franchise make him a strong contender; still, RCB might look for other options in the leadership role within the squad or in the mega auction of IPL 2025.
RCB’s Road to IPL 2025
A new leadership setup means RCB will look to make some fresh reshuffling in their squad to break the jinx this time around. In that respect, the franchise would not hesitate in making a few big moves at the auction to strengthen their line-up and find an apt captain to lead them into the new season.
Now, with anticipation building up, the onus lies with the RCB management as they look towards bringing back Kohli as captain in place of a new one in IPL 2025.
